George Zimmerman Case is NOT a Race/Profiling Issue

Zimmerman is a man, who in 2010, FOUGHT for Sherman Ware a BLACK homeless man horrifically beaten in the Sanford community. Who publicly wrote and distributed flyers, letters and criticized law enforcement’s lack of response to cover-up allegations in a violent crime against a black man in that same community.  Zimmerman, a Hispanic WHITE man, had been vehemently supportive of the black community, addressing the Sherman Ware beating with passion and holding law enforcement accountable with the public.

This isn’t a RACE issue – it’s a tragic occurrence that has cost the lives of all parties involved, and has had a horrible impact on our state.   Zimmerman isn’t a racist – he was a scared man that used his gun to defend himself.  A hyper-vigilant neighborhood watch member, whose community was battered by crimes over and again in the 2 months preceding the shooting.   A racist?  No way.  A man who’s life has been forever altered by inappropriate litigation?  Absolutely.

The reality of Martin was significantly different than the victim.  Martin’s picture all over the internet as a ‘tween’ failed to depict  the harsh reality:  Martin was a young, thug-ish kid who represented himself on social media sites smoking drugs, with gold teeth, flicking off the camera and was recently suspended for burglary tools and possession of stolen property from his school for the third time.  Martin, whose parents had little knowledge of the trouble he was in, beat Zimmerman, probably out of the same emotion that Zimmerman was experiencing:  FEAR.

Zimmerman is guilty of being a scared yet concerned citizen.  A hyper-vigilant community watch member, and guilty of making the decision to get out of his car to find out why a hoodied kid would be walking around the neighborhood in the dark where there’s been a recent crime spree.  Martin’s response of punching and beating Zimmerman was the sad reality that we are teaching our kids to react violently to adults questioning their behaviors.    I would argue that Zimmerman has been the victim of Malicious Prosecution that was politically driven and lost due to lack of probable cause, without proof of intent, and without clear evidence to prove anything other than stupidity and self defense.  The State Attorney’s office should  be embarrassed.
